Find a startup idea worth testing

Buteo's idea generation starts from a problem space instead of an idea. You say where you want to work and what your constraints are, it asks the questions that would change the answer, then proposes distinct startup angles you can pick from and validate.

How it works

  1. Start from a problem space

A domain or a sentence, and 5 constraints: sell to, budget, time, strengths, and appetite.

  2. Answer what it asks back

A few questions that decide which ideas are worth proposing. Skipping one widens the search.

  3. Pick an angle

Distinct angles, searched against your answers. Take one into a validation.

What you get

  • Angles that fit you

Written against your budget, your time, your strengths and who you want to sell to.

  • Real choices

Each angle differs from the others in more than wording.

  • More, without repeats

Ask again in the same session and the new angles avoid the earlier ones.

  • A straight line to a verdict

An angle becomes a validation in one step, edited into your own words first.

  • Honest labelling

An angle is shown as a proposal. Nothing claims it has been checked.

  • Shared ideas to start from

Ideas other founders chose to share, which you can adopt and validate yourself.

What does idea generation do?

It proposes startup angles on a problem space you choose, shaped by your own constraints. You give it a domain or a sentence, and 5 things about you: sell to, budget, time, strengths, and appetite. It gives back distinct angles, each different enough from the others to be a real choice.

It is for the stage before an idea: you know the area you want to work in, or the kind of problem, and not yet what to build.

Why does it ask questions first?

Because the same problem space holds different ideas for different founders. Before it proposes anything, Buteo writes a few questions whose answers would change which ideas are worth proposing for that space, and you answer by clicking. Skipping one is an answer too: it widens the search rather than blocking it.

Is a generated angle a validated idea?

No. An angle is a proposal, not evidence. It was searched against your answers so that it is plausible, and nothing about it has been tested. Validating it is what checks it.

Pick an angle, edit the paragraph into your own words, and it goes into a validation like any idea you typed yourself.

What does a session cost?

1 credit a session. If the first angles miss, you can ask for more in the same session, and the new ones are written to avoid repeating the earlier ones. See the pricing.

FAQ

Questions people ask about this

Can I use an idea somebody else shared?

Yes. A founder can choose to share an idea, and other signed-in users then see its title, summary, verdict and what was decided. You can take one as the starting point for a validation of your own, which runs its own research.

Does Buteo rank the angles it proposes?

No. Nothing has tested them yet, so a ranking would be a guess presented as a result. The angles are distinct options, and a validation is what tells you how one stands.

Bring the idea you intend to build.

Describe it in a paragraph. Your first validation is free, with no card, and every finding links to the page it came from.
