Terms of service
Buteo gives you a researched, cited recommendation about a startup idea. It is an argument to weigh, not a prediction and not professional advice, and the decision is always yours. These terms cover your account, credits and payments, and what each side is responsible for.

What is the service?
Buteo is an AI idea validator, operated by the operator of Buteo. It researches a startup idea on the open web and returns hypotheses, cited evidence, a competitor map and a Continue, Pivot or Kill recommendation, along with go-to-market studies and build plans.
By creating an account you agree to these terms.
What is a verdict, and what is it not?
A verdict is a recommendation built from published evidence that Buteo found and checked. It is not a prediction that a business will succeed or fail, and it is not financial, legal, tax or investment advice.
- Confidence figures describe how strong the evidence is, not how good the idea is.
- The research is done by language models and web search. It can miss things, misread a page, or find nothing where something exists. Findings that failed their source check are labelled, and you should open the sources behind anything you intend to rely on.
- Every decision about your idea, your money and your time is yours.
What are you responsible for on your account?
- Giving an email address you control, and keeping your password to yourself.
- Everything done through your account.
- One free trial per person. Creating accounts to claim it again is not allowed, and Buteo uses the signals described in the privacy policy to prevent it.
How do credits and payments work?
- Your first validation is free: 10 credits, granted once when you confirm your email address.
- After that, work is paid for in credits. A validation costs 10, another research pass 8, a go-to-market study 8, a build plan 6 and an idea-generation session 1. The current prices of credit packs are on the pricing section.
- Credits are bought in packs, once. There is no subscription and nothing renews. Credits do not expire.
- If a run fails, the credits it cost are returned to your balance.
- Payments are taken by Polar, which is the merchant of record: your purchase is a contract with Polar, and it issues your receipt and handles tax. Your invoices and receipts are in Settings, under Billing.
- A payment is refunded in full within 14 days if none of the credits it bought have been spent, as the refund policy sets out. When a payment is refunded, the credits it bought are removed from your balance, which can leave it below zero until it is settled.
Who owns what you put in and what comes out?
Your ideas stay yours. You give Buteo permission to process them, and to send them to the providers listed in the privacy policy, only in order to run the service for you.
You may use the reports, studies and plans Buteo produces for you as you wish. They quote and link to third-party pages, which belong to their owners.
A finished go-to-market study is readable by every signed-in user, as the app tells you before you start one. A study is featured on the public site only with its author's agreement.
What may you not do?
- Use Buteo for anything unlawful, or to research how to harm people.
- Submit other people's confidential information without the right to.
- Attack, overload or probe the service, or get around its limits, its pricing or its free-trial rules.
- Resell access to it, or present its output as a human expert's opinion.
How does an account end?
You can delete your account at any time in Settings, which removes your data as the privacy policy describes, its credit balance included. An account that breaks these terms may be suspended or closed.
What is Buteo not liable for?
The service is provided as it is. It depends on third-party models and search, so it may be unavailable or return an incomplete result, and a run that fails returns its credits.
To the extent the law allows, the operator of Buteo is not liable for business decisions made on the basis of a report, or for indirect losses such as lost profit, and its total liability to you is limited to what you paid in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here removes rights the law says cannot be removed.
Which law applies, and how are these terms changed?
These terms are governed by the law of the operator's country, without taking away any protection your own country's consumer law gives you.
If the terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them. Questions go to support@buteo.ink.
